Ingenium Financial Services first opened its doors in 2011, but its story began long before that.
After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and an Honours Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, Bruce worked for a computer firm in Calgary. His life took a turn in 1990 when his wife passed away and the company he worked for, which was experiencing financial difficulties, laid him off.
Bruce decided to apply his valuable life experience to a new career path. In 1993, Bruce was remarried and moved his family to Kelowna to start a new life as a financial advisor. In the same year, he formed his first company, Money Concepts.
Bruce met Bernie in 1994, and they quickly became friends. Bernie also has a diverse background, from running his own businesses, to fundraising for missions work, to counselling. But he’d been interested in a financial career ever since he operated his first small business in Prince George in the late 1980s.
Bernie completed his financial advisor schooling and joined Bruce’s business in 2010. In 2011, Bruce’s original business partner sold his half of the company to Bernie, and Ingenium was formed.
Ingenium boasted 850 clients in 2011. Since then, they have narrowed their client base down to about 120 clients to achieve their financial goals, especially retirement. Although Bruce and Bernie focus primarily on investment planning for their Kelowna and Vancouver clients, they also provide estate and tax planning services in collaboration with a colleague based in Vancouver.
While Bruce and Bernie’s vast life experience and financial knowledge contribute greatly to Ingenium’s success, it’s not all that makes the company stand out. With two sets of ears always listening, Bruce and Bernie are able to truly understand each client’s situation and work together to provide the best possible solution.
“What we enjoy most is building and maintaining relationships, full stop,” said Bruce. “Both Bernie and I love dealing with people and helping them with their financial goals and objectives. Each new client presents a unique set of circumstances that allows us to get creative, while always focusing on adding significant value to our client’s financial situation.”
Sometimes, knowing a company’s past is the key to understanding their success.
Now, Bruce and Bernie have room to expand their client base, and they look forward to continue helping current and new clients achieve their retirement goals.
